Bareilly: In a shocking incident that seems straight out of a crime thriller, a retired eye specialist from Bareilly narrowly escaped death after his wife and her 12-years-younger lover, an electrician, allegedly plotted to kill him for personal gain. The plan, however, backfired dramatically — thanks to the lover’s addiction to alcohol.
According to the 65-year-old doctor, the terrifying episode took place on October 28 at his residence in Subhash Nagar, Bareilly. His wife Shikha (57), allegedly in a secret relationship with Saurabh Saxena (45), served him milk laced with sleeping pills. Once he lost consciousness, the duo tied his hands and feet with ropes.
“When I regained consciousness, they held a knife to my chest and forced me to sign cheques and property papers,” the doctor told the police.
However, what saved his life was Saurabh’s heavy drinking habit. The electrician reportedly consumed large quantities of liquor kept in the house during the act. He soon became so intoxicated that he collapsed on the floor, unable to carry out the murder. Seizing the opportunity, the doctor managed to untie himself while his wife was in the bathroom and escaped outside to call for help.
By the time the police arrived, Shikha and her lover had fled. The investigation later revealed that the couple had deliberately switched off the CCTV cameras in the doctor’s house. But crucial footage from neighboring cameras provided evidence of their movements.
Police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the absconding duo.
Local residents are stunned by the revelations, as the doctor’s family is considered well-respected and influential in the area. The incident has sparked conversations about betrayal, obsession, and the shocking lengths to which people can go for love and greed.
