Twin Cable Bridge: Mumbai’s First Twin Cable-Stayed Flyover Under Construction; Six-Lane Marvel to Ease Traffic by 2028

Mumbai: In a major leap for Mumbai’s infrastructure, construction of the city’s first twin cable-stayed flyover has gained momentum. Approximately 35% of the work has been completed, with rapid progress underway. The new bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the Dadar area and make commuting smoother.

Replacing the Century-Old Tilak Flyover
The bridge is being built to replace the 100-year-old Tilak Flyover, connecting East and West Dadar. The old flyover will be dismantled only after the new bridge is fully operational, ensuring that traffic flow remains uninterrupted. Current traffic congestion in the area has become a serious concern, and this new structure is expected to alleviate it considerably.

Construction Timeline
The 600-meter-long, six-lane flyover is being constructed in two phases. Each bridge will have a width of 16.7 meters, providing more space than the previous flyover. The first phase, covering three lanes, is expected to be completed by April 2026, improving East-West traffic flow immediately. The second phase, completing the remaining three lanes, is planned to be finished within the next 18 months, with the entire six-lane bridge ready by 2028.

Key Features
The flyover is being built using advanced technology at a cost of ₹375 crore. It will feature modern lighting and include a selfie point, making it not just a transportation hub but also an attractive urban landmark for Mumbai residents and tourists alike.

With this ambitious project, Mumbai is set to combine efficient traffic management with urban aesthetics, reinforcing the city’s position as a leader in modern infrastructure development.
